Starch is widely used as an ingredient in groceries, beverages, paper, textiles, and other products that are essential to our lives. It is the mission of Japan Cornstarch as the leading company in the manufacture of cornstarch to ensure a stable supply of high-quality products.

With recent scandals involving food product manufacturers, consumers are becoming increasingly distrustful, and demands from customers related to the reliability and safety of products are growing year after year.

Kinuura food product complex, with the highest processing capacity in Japan

With a monthly processing capacity of 62,000 tons, and the only facilities in the industry that allow the direct docking of 75,000-ton panamax ships, the high productivity of the Kinuura complex not only allows us to provide a stable supply of products at lower cost, it also allows us to achieve higher product quality and reduce environmental impact.

Seismic reinforcement construction at the production plant

Seismic reinforcement construction in preparation for a possible Tokai or Tonankai earthquake has been carried out at the Japan Cornstarch Kinuura plant, with Taisei Corporation handling the work on the buildings, Chemical Grouting Co., Ltd. from te Kajima Group handling the foundation work, and Tokai Plant Engineering Co., Ltd. handling the work on machines and equipment. Through this seismic reinforcement, we are working to maximize safety in the event of a Tokai or Tonankai earthquake, and are taking every step to ensure the stable supply of products to our customers.

TPM activities

Japan Cornstarch introduced TPM activities* in 1993, in keeping with our mission of "working to improve our corporate structure and create a new age". In addition, in 2008 we acquired a license for the production of pharmaceuticals, and with this official recognition of our safety and reliability we launched new TPM activities in May of 2008. In the future, we will continue to improve our corporate structure to meet the demands of the next generation.

Highly rated by customers for safety and reliability

In order to expand the reputation of our company for its corporate principles of dedication to product equipment and product control systems, Japan Cornstarch has introduced HACCP controls and acquired a license for the production of pharmaceuticals, two achievements which demonstrate that our products are highly rated for safety and reliability as food products and as ingredients for pharmaceuticals.

As a result, we became the first facility in the starch and corn sweetener industry to be approved by the local government under the Aichi Prefecture HACCP certification system prescribed. We also succeeded in acquiring a license for the production of pharmaceuticals in our cornstarch business, making it possible for us to enter new markets.

After obtaining official recognition of the safety and reliability in our production of food products and pharmaceutical ingredients, in May 2008 we also kicked off new TPM activities incorporating these achievements, and are working to improve our corporate structure to meet the needs of the next generation.

This system was first created by NASA for hygienic control of astronaut meals, which must never permit the possibility of food poisoning. Guidelines have been announced by a special United Nations organization, which is recommending their adoption by all countries.

「Receipt of FSSC 22000 Certification」

The first FSSC 22000 certification within the Japanese cornstarch industry

On 8 October 2011, Japan Corn Starch became the first cornstarch/polysaccharide producer in Japan to receive certification under FSSC 22000, a complete certification scheme for Food Safety Systems recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFIS), a business-driven initiative for the continuous improvement of food safety management systems.
While we have long considered food safety to be fundamental to all that we do, we take the receipt of this certification as an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to providing our consumers with safe and wholesome food products.
More specifically, actively utilizing this Food Safety System Certified (FSSC) system for food safety management will help us continue in our efforts to develop systems, enhance facilities, and train personnel toward the ultimate goal of contributing to society through the stable provision of safe and wholesome food products.

Food Safety System Certification 22000

 

The FSSC 22000 Standard is a combination of ISO 22000, a standard for the management of food safety systems from the International Organization for Standardization, and PAS 220, a standard for general food safety based on HACCP (Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points) methodology. The FSSC Standard provides a tight set of controls over managerial systems to assure safety and sanitation throughout the food processing industry.
